All the fun that Cubs have does have a cost. In an effort to minimize the out of pocket cost to families Pack 178 generates most of the funding to cover our budget through fundraising. While each family does pay annual dues, approximately 2/3 the cost of the Pack program for each Scout comes from fundraising. Cubs have various fundraising opportunities, such as selling popcorn, camp cards, and flag pins.
This is not just about money however, Scouts participate in the fundraising and earning the money to pay for the program they love! In the process Scouts also learn important life skills. Putting oneself forward and being uncomfortable selling is a part of growth that each Cub experiences, though some of the scouts are naturals at it.
Of course Scouts do still earn prizes and rewards for their hard work!
Pack 178 does have minimum requirements for participation in popcorn sales for each Scout. Generally this requirement is limited to a minimum level of participation in manning storefront sales booths. These requirements can vary from each year depending on the needs of the Pack.
For families who do not feel comfortable fundraising; the Pack offers options for opting out of fundraising, normally associated with payment of higher annual dues.
