Advancing through the ranks requires new adventures. Learning about paleontology, fishing, wood shop, and much, much more, will give you the opportunity to try new things.

Life Skills and Tools

Cub Scouting teaches Scouts valuable skills and tools for everyday life.  In addition to the outdoor and camping skills; Scouts learn to be good leaders, become self-reliant and resilient civic minded, to work hard, to be kind and accepting of others and self-respect and discipline.  Every adventure in Cub Scouts is both fun and a learning experiance

Why Choose Cub Scout Pack 178?

Located in Ahwatukee, AZ, Cub Scout Pack 178 is family Pack serving boys and girls in grades K-5.  We have an active pack with leaders and parent volunteers dedicated to providing their cubs with an education and experiences that are both fun and rewarding.  We are a community, and you are welcome to join us! In Cub Scouting you’ll have lots of fun, adventure, and activities with your den and pack. But there’s more to it than that. Being a Cub Scout means you are a member of a worldwide youth movement that stands for certain values and beliefs. Cub Scouting is more than something to do. Cub Scout Stem Awards

The Boy Scouts of America’s NOVA Awards program incorporates learning with cool activities and exposure to science, technology, engineering and mathematics for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers. The hope is that the requirements and activities for earning these awards stimulates interest in STEM-related fields and shows how science, technology, engineering and mathematics apply to everyday living and the world around them. Counselors and mentors help bring this engaging, contemporary, and fun program to life for youth members.

The Outdoors Await!

Cub Scout Pack 178 has several optional pack campouts per year for our scouts to take advantage of. Your scout’s dues pays for the Fall and Spring campouts, normally held at one of the Arizona BSA camps. Our Summer campout is made to be extremely affordable through sharing of the campground costs.

If the Pack campouts aren’t enough, the Gila River District and Grand Canyon Council have camps that your Cub can enjoy as well.  Camp Kaibab in Williams, AZ, and Cub Scout Camp at R-C in Payson, AZ, are two of the most popular.

Outdoor events don’t stop with camping.  Pack 178 has three day hikes planned every year. These hikes are local, with locations chosen so that every cub in the pack can have fun.

Many of our cubs, and parents, are new to camping.  Pack 178 has day events planned that will introduce cubs to the camping experience.  How to cook in a dutch oven, put up a tent, roll up a sleeping bag.  There’s a lot of skill involved for a cub that’s never been camping before.  We teach those skills!

What Our Parents Say

Scouting has provided a whole family experience while teaching my boys confidence and honor.  Pack 178 is like an extended family of friends doing life together.  The boys are truly growing as a brotherhood.

Megan H.

We love the positive character development gained through scouting, and he loves the fun and friendships!

Baron and Kim S.

Scouting consistently invites Dylan to learn new things about himself and the world in which he lives.

Tim T.

Raising my twin boys to be involved in Cub Scouts and Pack 178 has reinforced their duty to God and their Country as well as to always help others. So proud to be a part of this great pack!!

Jim W.

Trey’s favorite activity is participating in the Veteran’s Day Parade.  Nothing showed him in a more meaningful way what it means to serve than when he tried to high five a Veteran watching the parade that was missing his arm.  Thank you Cub Scouts!

Lisa C.

Dyllan has discovered how fun camping is.
